President and cabinet appoint
new minister and approve outstanding payments
Following a meeting of the Cabinet today (31 May) Presidential
Counsel Peter Jacob made a number of announcements on national
television on behalf of the president and cabinet, including the
appointment of a new minister and payment of various outstanding
salaries, royalties and land leases.
Member of Boe Honourable Baron Waqa, MP, was appointed today (31
May) as Minister for Fisheries.
Mr Jacob also announced that Cabinet has approved the following
pending payments that will be made next week.
Payments to be made on Wednesday 5th June:
- Government land leases including the Regional Processing
Centre
Payments to be made on Thursday 6 June and Friday 7 June:
- Government pending salaries amounting to $2-million
- Eigigu Holdings Corporation pending salaries amounting to
$300,000
- All outstanding balance of RONPhos pending salaries amounting
to $2.2-million
- Outstanding royalties.
Cabinet is also considering paying out the 2007 RONWAN no later
than 30 June 2013.
Government salaries for the next pay week will be paid out a
couple days earlier from Monday 3rd June.
