Faster internet speeds now on Nauru
The Government of Nauru says the
introduction of the new 4G connectivity network will have far
reaching and profound benefits to the nation, including improved
business, education and health outcomes.
Digicel Pacific and its satellite partner O3b Networks have signed
an agreement to increase satellite capacity to bring
state-of-the-art mobile 4G and LTE connectivity to Nauru, with some
customers already linked in to the lightning fast network.
Minister of Telecommunications Hon Shadlog Bernicke said the
introduction of 4G technology was a key policy initiative and an
election promise he made in July.
"This is a tremendous development for every Nauruan and we warmly
thank our technology partner Digicel Pacific for allowing us to
become part of the digitized international community."
Minister Bernicke added Nauru will no longer feel the effects of
isolation with the 4G network capable of linking friends and family
from all parts of the world quickly and efficiently.
"The implications of this new technology for business, education
and health are overwhelming.
"We will be able to achieve so much more as we transition into the
global economy, not just in the Pacific but all over the
world."
The Minister said health workers and educators particularly will
now have online access to resources and assistance previously not
available.
Infrastructure for the 4G network began in Nauru in May and was
completed with the installation of new hardware on the
communications tower at Command Ridge.
"It has been worth the wait and I know Nauruans will be extremely
keen to take advantage of the improved network with faster internet
speeds and more reliable connections."
