His Excellency President Lionel Aingimea, MP

In today's update, the accumulative statistics for  Friday 5th to Monday 8th August are as follows:

-           0 new local cases

-           2 imported cases (passengers from Thursday's flight)

-           4 active cases

-           0 patients in Acute Care Unit

-           1 death (accumulative)

-           0 critical cases

-           0 ventilation

-           0 home isolation

Please practice hand hygiene and keep your distance of 1.5-2 meters.

If you leave your homes for essential reasons please wear a mask.

Step 3 of easing of COVID restrictions remains in place. When with other people outside your household, you must wear your mask, social distance and continue hand hygiene practices of washing with soap and sanitise to keep our community safe.

President Lionel Aingimea thanks the governments of Switzerland for the donation of over 12,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccines and Australia for covering the cost of the associated ancillaries (syringes, diluents). His Excellency also extends his gratitude to the government of the United States of America for donating 12,000 Pfizer vaccines which will be delivered at a later date.

A total of 97 children aged 5-11 received their vaccinations on Friday 5 August while 120 received theirs on Monday 8 August, totaling 217 children.

Of this 217 total, 11 children received their first dose (89 per cent) and 206 children received their second dose (58 per cent) and are therefore fully vaccinated.

Children who have taken their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine three weeks ago are now eligible to take the second dose.

Parents and guardians are advised that if your child has COVID, it is better to wait three months from the time of infection to get their first dose. This will help the body increase immunity.

Waiting three months is beneficial in terms of building stronger immunity. However, there is no harm if you want your child to take the shot after recovering from COVID as long as they have no acute illness.

Do not hesitate to ask questions, help or advice from Health professionals at the vaccination stations.

Mask up, sanitise, hand wash and social distancing are vital steps and efficient ways of reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

If you have symptoms, stay home until you are tested.

Please practice hand hygiene, wear a mask, keep your distances, avoid crowding and keep houses well ventilated.

If you are self-testing at home please call 192 to report your result or visit the link below.

Numbers 191 and 192 are both operational if you would like to enquire or request for assistance.

Register your self-test RAT result with 192 or go online at   https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/0c233d5e98a44d7b942fbeb161c245df

If you test positive you must isolate at home for at least 13 days (10 days for essential workers) and follow protocols for ending isolation.
