CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

by

His Excellency President Lionel Aingimea, MP

Tuesday, 2 August 2022

In today's update, the accumulative statistics for Monday 2nd August, are as follows:

-           3 active cases

-           107 tests done on Monday (public and Year 8 students and teachers who returned to classes yesterday)

-           17,671 tests done this outbreak

-           4,598 cases recovered

-           0 patients in Acute Care Unit

-           1 death (accumulative)

-           0 critical cases

-           0 ventilation

-           0 occupants at the Menen quarantine facility; the remaining four were cleared and released on Sunday 31 July

-           1 house in lockdown with 19 residents (this includes members of the household who are negative but are required to remain in home isolation also)

Please practice hand hygiene and keep your distance of 1.5-2 meters.

If you leave your homes for essential reasons please wear a mask.

A total of 91 children aged 5-11 received their vaccinations on Monday 1 August. No testing or vaccinations were done over the weekend.

Of this number, 3 children received their first dose (89 per cent) and 88 children received their second dose (39 per cent) and are therefore fully vaccinated.

Children who have taken their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine three weeks ago are now eligible to take the second dose.

Parents and guardians are advised that if your child has COVID, it is better to wait three months from the time of infection to get their first dose. This will help the body increase immunity.

Waiting three months is beneficial in terms of building stronger immunity. However, there is no harm if you want your child to take the shot after recovering from COVID as long as they have no acute illness.

Do not hesitate to ask questions, help or advice from Health professionals at the vaccination stations.

Get your child vaccinated at Aiue Boulevard daily or in Denig in front of Rhyllis' residence on Wednesday 3rd August, 10am-5pm.

Mask up, sanitise, hand wash and social distancing are vital steps and efficient ways of reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

•          Wearing masks is mandatory. If you have symptoms, get tested.

•          Stay at Home and do not go to work, school, etc until tested.

•          All venues that are allowed to have people congregate such as gyms, churches, work places, schools - need to put in place systems to maintain distancing and prevent crowding where possible. They must undertake frequent cleaning and disinfection; maintain good ventilation where possible; and consider using air purifiers in enclosed spaces.

If you have symptoms, stay home until you are tested.

Please practice hand hygiene, wear a mask, keep your distances and keep houses well ventilated.

If you are self-testing at home please call 192 to report your result or visit the link below.

Numbers 191 and 192 are both operational if you would like to enquire or request for assistance.

Register your self-test RAT result with 192 or go online at   https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/0c233d5e98a44d7b942fbeb161c245df

If you test positive you must isolate at home for at least 13 days (10 days for essential workers) and follow protocols for ending isolation.
