COVID-19: Update by President Lionel Aingimea - Tuesday 12 July 2022

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

by

His Excellency President Lionel Aingimea, MP

Tuesday, 12 July 2022

In today's update, the accumulative statistics as at end of Monday, 11 July, are as follows:

-             16 new cases

-             4,129 active cases

-             394 tests done yesterday (Mon, 11 July)

-             14,517 tests done this outbreak

-             2,790 cases recovered

-             7 cases admitted to the hospital Acute Care Unit with an additional 3 carers. All patients have mild or no COVID symptoms but have underlying illness.

-             1 death (accumulative)

-             0 critical cases

-             0 ventilation

-             139 houses on lockdown with 1,984 residents

-             0 occupants in the quarantine facilities

Yesterday's test results equate to four per cent results being positive, further decreasing the ratio of positive cases. Overall tests collected this outbreak is now at 31 per cent.

With the progressive results of the COVID outbreak, Nauru's National COVID-19 Taskforce has advised some changes in protocols or restrictions for this soft lockdown. National measures will be lifted soon and rules or requirements will be announced this week.

Please practice hand hygiene, wearing mask, keeping you distances and keeping houses well ventilated.

Eighty children aged five to 11 received their first dose yesterday (Mon, 11 July), taking the total to 1,169. Fifty per cent of this group has received their first dose.

With the current soft lockdown in place, Public Health teams will set up vaccination stations for this age group within districts and will conduct house to house vaccination visits.

There are a number of children in home isolation and have not been tested but parents and guardians are encouraged to bring children who are able to get vaccinated sooner rather than later.

Taskforce's advice to parents and guardians is that if your child has contracted the virus they should wait until September to take their first dose.

Maintain good hygiene. Always wash your hands with soap and water, wear a mask, keep your distance, and keep houses well ventilated.

If you are self-testing at home please call in to report your result with 192 or visit the link below.

Numbers 191 and 192 are both operational if you would like to enquire or request for assistance.
