COVID-19: Update by President Lionel Aingimea - Thursday 14 July 2022

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

by

His Excellency President Lionel Aingimea, MP

Thursday, 14 July 2022

In today's update, the accumulative statistics as at end of Wednesday, 13 July, are as follows:

-           30 new cases

-           4,337 active cases

-           194 tests done yesterday (Wed, 13 July)

-           15,001 tests done this outbreak

-           3,391 cases recovered

-           6 cases admitted to the hospital Acute Care Unit with an additional 3 carers. All patients have mild or no COVID symptoms but have underlying illness.

-           1 death (accumulative)

-           0 critical cases

-           0 ventilation

-           79 homes under isolation with 1,139 residents

Yesterday's test results equate to 15 per cent or approximately one in six results being positive. There were an increased number of people reporting their results yesterday, thus the increased number of positive cases recorded. The overall tests collected this outbreak is still decreasing and is now at 30 per cent.

Please practice hand hygiene, wear a mask, keep your distances and keep houses well ventilated.

A total of 76 children aged five to received their first dose yesterday (Wed, 13 July), taking the total to 1,355. Children in this age group have now reached 53 per cent vaccination coverage.

With the current soft lockdown in place, Public Health teams will set up vaccination stations for this age group within districts and will conduct house to house vaccination visits.

There are a number of children in home isolation and have not been tested but parents and guardians are encouraged to bring children who are able to get vaccinated sooner rather than later.

Parents and guardians are advised that if your child has COVID, it is better to wait 3 months from the time of infection to get their first dose. This will help the body increase immunity. Waiting the 3 months will be more beneficial in terms of building stronger immunity.

However, there is no harm if you want your child to take the shot after recovering from COVID as long as they have no acute illness.

If you are self-testing at home please call in to report your result with 192 or visit the link below.

Numbers 191 and 192 are both operational if you would like to enquire or request for assistance.
