CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

by

His Excellency President Lionel Aingimea, MP

Saturday, 20 August 2022

In today's update, the accumulative statistics from Tuesday 16th to Thursday 18th August are as follows:

-           1 new local case

-           0 imported cases

-           5 active cases

-           777 tests done this week (Tue-Thu)

-           20,509 tests done this outbreak

-           4,605 cases recovered

-           0 patients in Acute Care Unit

-           1 death (accumulative)

-           0 critical cases

-           0 ventilation

-           5 isolation (4 home, 1 Menen transit station)

For the home isolation case, a child was presented to the hospital with flu-like symptoms and subsequently tested positive and contact tracing was carried out with the family. Those in home isolation are receiving essential supplies with assistance from the Nauru Post, and are being monitored by Nauru Public Health.

President Lionel Aingimea says the Taskforce advises this is not a second wave of transmission but isolated cases are to be expected every now and then. There is no cause for alarm in regards to a second wave as this is not the case.

Wear your mask, hand wash, sanitise, and keep your distance of 1.5-2 metres.

Ninety per cent of children aged five to 11 have received their first COVID vaccination and 71 per cent are now fully vaccinated with two doses.

Taskforce advises that additional vaccines are due this month and the public will be informed accordingly.

Get your child vaccinated. Ask questions, help or advice from Health professionals at the vaccination stations.

Step 3 measures remain in place - that means you must still wear a mask in public places, including at restaurants, meeting places, office, schools, parks, and at social gatherings; and keep your distance of 1.5m. But if you are traveling alone in your car or your passengers are people you live with in the same house, you don't need to mask up.

The public is reminded that wearing a mask, sanitising, hand washing and social distancing are vital steps and efficient ways of reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

If you have symptoms, stay home until you are tested.

Please practice hand hygiene, wear a mask, keep your distances, avoid crowding and keep houses well ventilated.

If you are self-testing at home please call 192 to report your result or visit the link below.

It is very important that you report your result after self-testing using a RAT kit whether it's a positive or negative result.

Numbers 191 and 192 are both operational if you would like to enquire or request for assistance.

Register your self-test RAT result with 192 or go online at   https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/0c233d5e98a44d7b942fbeb161c245df

If you test positive you must isolate at home for at least 13 days (10 days for essential workers) and follow protocols for ending isolation.
