In today's update, His Excellency
President Lionel Aingimea says the accumulative statistics as at
end of Wednesday, 22 June, are as follows:
-
191 new cases
-
861 active cases
-
4,597 tests done this outbreak
-
three have left the Acute Care Unit (ACU); eight people remain in
ACU for observation (including two maternity cases, one child is
discharged to the quarantine facility and observed by nurses in
quarantine.)
-
Everyone is stable and no-one is in a critical condition or needing
a ventilator.
Cases are almost doubling every two
days. Nineteen per cent or approximately one in five people tested
are positive.
As at today, Thursday 23 June, 110
houses are in isolation/lockdown. Yesterday there were 75
houses.
Yaren 8; Boe 12; Aiwo 2; Buada 11;
Denig 5; Nibok 3; Uaboe 11; Baitsi 6; Ewa 17; Anetan 10; Anabar 11;
Ijuw 2; Anibare 2; Menen 10.
The number of people isolating at
the government transit stations has reduced with some opting to
isolate at home:
- Budapest
Transit Station: 50 people have opted to self-Isolate at home; 187
remain at the Budapest.
- Menen
Transit Station: 81 people have opted to self-isolate at home; 106
remain at the Menen.
A total of 293 are isolating at
Budapest and Menen.
Special Isolation facilities are
available for essential workers from health and police.
More vaccines will arrive to
provide further doses for everyone who still requires their first
two shots or missed out on the booster (3rd shot);
as well as for the 4th dose.
If it has been four months since
your last shot, the following are now eligible for their next
dose:
- All
children aged 12-17 years can get the 3rd dose
- 50
years and older can get the 4th dose
- 4th dose
also for 18-49 years who are:
o frontline
workers
o have high risk
comorbidity (having more than one illness)
o people with
disability
President Aingimea thanks the
Government of Australia for funding the vaccines for children 5-11
years. The 6,600 doses arrived last night and will be available for
this age group soon.
Health teams will set up a drive
through vaccine station for this age group. Please listen to radio,
TV and text blast announcements for roll-out times.
Children who have not been infected
with COVID can be vaccinated ASAP. But if your child has been
infected with COVID during this outbreak, they should wait three
months (late September) before they can take their first dose then
three to four weeks later for the second dose.
The President commends our health
staff and frontline workers who are doing a great job and
encourages that we offer them all our support and understanding so
they can effectively do their work.
The kinds of assistance we can
offer are to wear our masks, sanitise, avoid contact with other
people, and limit our movements. We all need to act and do what we
can to protect the vulnerable.
Do not be alarmed about the rising
numbers, this is to be expected. We have prepared for a long time
in the event that COVID reaches our community. We have a high
vaccination rate in our community.
The Taskforce had set phases and
protocols in place for actions to be taken for the different stages
of community transmission. The drills, plans and protocols in place
are to prepare us for this now.
We will eventually have to live
with the virus as other countries have but in the meantime, we must
follow our health protocols and maintain the rules in place of hand
washing, wear masks, sanitise, avoid close contacts, and minimise
movements.
There are still unrecorded cases
out in the community. We need test results to help the Taskforce
track where we are at in this outbreak.
We need everyone who has conducted
home self-tests to call 192 to register your results, both positive
and negative results.
You need to get tested if you have
symptoms or are a close contact.
You do not need to get tested again
after you have tested positive. Only register your positive result
once.
If you are positive, at this time
we ask you to isolate for 13 days and until you have had three days
without symptoms before ending your isolation. You can
self-isolate at home but if you can't self-isolate or don't feel
safe, you can request to isolate at the government quarantine
accommodation where there are health staff and other support
available.
At this time, if you are a close
contact, we ask you to self-isolate at home for six days.
These isolation protocols may
change and reduce as we go through the outbreak.
Due to the number of calls being
received, 191 will sometimes be busy. Please keep calling this
number and your call will be answered.
Call 192 to register your self-test
results. These calls will not be charged.
