CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

by

His Excellency President Lionel Aingimea, MP

Sunday, 3 July 2022

In today's update, the accumulative statistics as at end of Saturday, 2 July, are as follows:

-             109 new cases

-             3,558 active cases

-             353 tests done yesterday (Sat, 2 July)

-             11,309 tests done this outbreak

-             389 cases recovered

-             10 cases admitted in the hospital Acute Care Unit

-             1 death (accumulative)

-             0 critical cases

 -            0 ventilation

-             461 houses are on lockdown with 3,671 residents

-             120 occupants in the quarantine facility (Budapest)

All tests done so far reveal 35 per cent are positive results, while yesterday alone there was a 31 per cent positive rate. This means one in every three people tested return a positive result.

On 2 July, only five children aged 5-11 years received their first dose. In total, 682 children in this age group have been vaccinated. Parents and guardians are urged to bring in their children to get vaccinated.

President Lionel Aingimea says the COVID variant circulating in Nauru is Omicron.

Further sequencing analysis to confirm lineage is being done by the Doherty Institute in Melbourne, Australia, and the public will be updated as information comes to hand.

The President warns Omicron is circulating fast in the community and urges the public to minimise movement and only travel for essential purposes.

The country's semi-lockdown will continue so we continue to protect the vulnerable and those who have not contracted the virus.

Gatherings of more than three people are prohibited. We must treat this seriously to reduce the spread.

Testing and vaccination stations reopen tomorrow at the Blues and Tigers ovals, Aiwo Boulevard and at Public Health.

For those that are unable to reach these testing sites, you can call 191 for home testing.

If you are self-testing, you are urged to register your result - both positive and negative.

Go online to register if you have done your own test.
