CORONAVIRUS UPDATE by His Excellency President Lionel Aingimea, MP Monday, 4 July 2022

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

by

His Excellency President Lionel Aingimea, MP

Monday, 4 July 2022

In today's update, the accumulative statistics as at end of Sunday, 3 July, are as follows:

-             10 new cases

-             3,957 active cases

-             47 tests done yesterday (Sun, 3 July)

-             11,356 tests done this outbreak

-             469 cases recovered

-             9 cases admitted in the hospital Acute Care Unit with an additional 3 carers

-             1 death (accumulative)

-             0 critical cases

-             0 ventilation

-             469 houses are in lockdown with 3,733 residents

-             101 occupants are in the quarantine facility (Budapest)

From yesterday's testing, 21 per cent of testing are positive. This is one in five people tested that return a positive result. This does not suggest that the cases of COVID in the community has slowed down but is however attributed to the day being a Sunday, hence the very low numbers of people coming in to get tested.

The total number of children aged 5-11 years vaccinated with the first dose so far is 682 children. Parents and guardians are encouraged to bring in their children to get vaccinated.

Testing and vaccination stations for this group are open at the Aiwo Boulevard.  Remember to wear a mask, sanitise and keep your distance

President Lionel Aingimea warns that Omicron is very contagious and is circulating fast in the community. The general public is urged to minimise movement and only travel for essential purposes.

Some services such as grocery purchases, electricity and phone top up can be done online and the public is advised to utilise these services.

While some may have very mild effects of COVID, there may be others who will find it difficult to manage, especially those who are not vaccinated, the elderly, children, anyone who has bronchial infections, and other vulnerable groups.

As part of the Government's welfare support, a second ex-gratia payment for COVID will be paid to government and SOE employees, pensioners and disability recipients. This is to support the cost of essential goods during this COVID period.

The payout is dependent on your fortnightly salary scale:

- Fortnightly income less than $500 = $1000 ex-gratia payment

- Fortnightly income $501 to $800 = $800 ex-gratia payment

- Fortnightly income $800 or more = $600 ex-gratia payment

For further information, please contact 5573133 and ask to be transferred to Finance Department.

Drive-through testing stations are always open at Blues and Tigers ovals and Public Health. If you are unable to reach these testing sites please call 191 for home testing.

If you are self-testing, please register your result - both positive and negative. Go online to register your result at https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/0c233d5e98a44d7b942fbeb161c245df

The public is requested to minimise movements away from home. Gatherings of more than three people are prohibited. We must treat this seriously to reduce the spread.
